QANTAS/Emirates alliance set to be announced

Aug 31, 2012 No Comments by

The proposed QANTAS/Emirates alliance is set to be announced as early as 06 September. Tim Clark President of Emirates and the Chairman of the Emirates, is expected to be in Sydney on this date arrving on EK412. Strangely this flight will not proceed to Auckland as is normally scheduled.

The alliance is not expected to have any equity involvement. It will be structured around a code-share and frequent flyer agreement between the two carriers. The QF code is expected to be placed on EK’s services from PER/MEL/SYD/ADL/BNE/CHC/AKL to Dubai with onward connections to EK’s European network.

QF’s Frankfurt services are reportedly being terminated in favour of code-share with EK. There is also some doubt about QF’s own services to London Heathrow – there is speculation QF may further reduce or cancel its LHR flights with the slots being used by EK. QF holds valuable prime morning arrival slots into LHR. Up until ealier this year, QF operated 4 daily services to LHR – these were reduced to just 2 daily with the slots being leased to oneworld alliance partner British Airways.
